About VirtualRick
Engineer. Maker. Gear Tester.
The Philosophy
Welcome to Rick's Gear & Hardware Labs. I built this site because I got tired of reading fake, manufactured reviews by people who clearly never laid hands on the actual product. I wanted a place to document the real, long-term performance of the gear I use every single day.
My testing philosophy is simple: Buy the best. Leave the rest. Everything you see on this site has been purchased by me, tested in the real world, and pushed to its limits. Whether it's dialing in the perfect 3D printing setup, maintaining my vehicles, or ensuring my kids are safe on the ropes, I only recommend what I actually trust my time (and life) with.
How I Test
I am an engineer by trade, which means my approach to testing involves data, long-term observation, and a complete disregard for marketing fluff. I track variables, log maintenance intervals, and tear things apart to see how they're built.
- No Sponsored Reviews: If I wouldn't spend my own money on it, I won't tell you to spend yours.
- Long-Term Validation: You won't find "out of the box" reviews here. I wait until the honeymoon phase is over to see how gear holds up after months of actual abuse.
- Transparency: If something breaks or underperforms, I update the profile to reflect that failure.
